PEERS Program

PEERS® is an evidence-based social skills training program that coaches individuals with autism spectrum disorder on how to make and keep friends, handle conflict, and develop relationships.

SARRC offers PEERS for Adolescents and PEERS for Young Adults year-round at our Phoenix and Mesa campuses.

PEERS for Adolescents
Ages 13-18

PEERS for Adolescents is a social skills program for individuals aged 13-18 years old interested in making and keeping friends. Teens and parents will attend weekly group sessions. Teens will learn through instruction, role-play with coaching, and group-based activities. Parents will attend a parent-group session that complements and directly supports their teen’s learning.

Participants can look forward to:

  • Increasing conversational skills
  • Using humor
  • Navigating electronic communication
  • Entering and exiting conversations
  • Organizing and attending get-togethers
  • Increasing sportsmanship
  • Handling disagreements and bullying
  • Responding to rumors and gossip

Weekly group sessions are on Tuesdays at SARRC’s Phoenix 18th St Campus: 300 N 18th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85006 from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

  • January 6 – April 7 – Session closed
  • May 5 – August 4
  • September 1 – December 1

Mesa: Weekly group sessions are on Wednesdays at SARRC’s Mesa Campus: 2165 N Power Rd, Mesa, AZ 85215 from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

  • February 11 – May 13

PEERS for Young Adults
Ages 18+

PEERS for Young Adults is designed for individuals aged 18+ interested in making friends or developing relationships. Participants will attend weekly group sessions and learn through instruction, role-play, and activities. It is strongly recommended that young adults enroll with a social coach who can be a parent, friend, roommate, or sibling. 

Participants can look forward to:

  • Increasing conversational skills
  • Using humor
  • Navigating electronic communication
  • Responding to rumors and gossip
  • Handling disagreements and bullying
  • Handling arguments & disagreements
  • Organizing and attending get-togethers
  • Building dating skills

Recruiting Teen Peer Mentors 

Volunteer Peer Mentors will be enrolled in the program and commit to the weekly sessions. We seek peers who value and want to practice teamwork, respect, collaboration, and learning! Mentors gain an understanding of neurodiversity and learn more about those who may be different from themselves.
