Regeanna and James Mwansa

Impressed with SARRC’s impact of early intervention for youngsters on the autism spectrum, Regeanna and James Mwansa joined SARRC’s Multiyear Visionary Partner program to help improve early diagnosis efforts so children may get the early intervention they need.

As Multiyear Visionary Partners or MVPs, they have pledged an annual donation for five years to support SARRC’s programs, services and research. Regeanna and James and their children called Arizona home for many years. But after college, their children chose to move out of state. As for Regeanna and James, they also made a move and currently live in Indonesia where James works as a Technical Expert in underground Planning for Freeport-McMoRan.

The MVP program was ideal for the Mwansas, who are able to make an impact from afar. “It is important to me to continue to support SARRC and now I don’t have to even think about it for the next five years,” says Regeanna.

Although no one in their immediate family is affected by autism, they have close friends who are, including Regeanna’s best friend from high school.

“I have personally seen up close just how important services are,” she says. “I know it is very important to identify early signs and move forward to get a diagnosis. But SARRC does so much more. I am really interested in services that support adults with autism transition and learn the skills needed to live and work on their own.”

The Mwansas involvement with SARRC began in 2015 when Regeanna was working as a financial services agent in Phoenix. Longtime friend Beth Salazar, SARRC’s planned giving manager, recruited her for the nonprofit’s Planned Giving Professional Advisory Council.

Regeanna took an active role in planning workshops on topics such as estate planning, special needs trusts and guardianship for families who had children with special needs.

“I was so impressed, the families really benefited from these workshops, and it gave them the information they needed to plan properly for their loved one,” says Regeanna.

In addition to continuing to support the Arizona nonprofit community, Regeanna and James also support charities in Indonesia that focus on breast cancer awareness, children’s services and involvement with efforts that help support the local tribes.
