From Uncertainty to Empowerment: A Journey with SARRC’s JumpStart Program

Like many parents navigating the early signs of autism, Margot and her family found themselves facing uncertainty. Before discovering SARRC, they searched for answers, unsure of how best to support their son, Luke.

“We were questioning our every move as parents of a child who had undiagnosed learning differences and speech regression/delay,” Margot shares. “We knew we needed support, and after a six-month waitlist to meet with a Developmental Pediatrician, we were introduced to SARRC and all of the resources available for families new to the world of autism.”

The family’s introduction to SARRC led them to JumpStart®, a six-week program designed to assist families who are new to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by providing essential information, support, and strategies through personalized coaching sessions with a licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

For Margot, JumpStart served as a crucial starting point in her and Luke’s journey.

“The JumpStart program unlocked something in Luke,” Margot says. “Working with Brittani was incredible as she is not only an expert in her trade, but she is amazing with her clients. She followed Luke’s lead as he acclimated, and then she challenged him, tested his boundaries, and offered him the chance to express himself in ways we didn’t know were possible for him.”

Through structured support, Luke made significant progress.

“In September 2023, Luke was almost completely nonverbal. Tantrums occurred multiple times each day,” Margot shares. As he engaged with JumpStart, his communication skills improved, and he found new ways to express himself.

Margot explains, “From enhancing his speech to making decisions without scripting and learning to express himself while reducing the frequency of tantrums were some of the main shifts we value today. We saw so much progress during our time in the program.”

With guidance from SARRC, the family learned valuable strategies that helped Luke build essential communication skills.

Now, Margot and her family are hopeful and excited about Luke’s future, knowing that early intervention has given him a strong foundation.

To other families considering JumpStart, Margot offers this advice:

“Jump into the program and start working on the goals you have for your child, family and as a parent,” Margot shares. “SARRC is your advocate and a valued member of your team willing to inform, educate, and empower you along the way.
