Anthony Herro, D.D.S., initially gravitated toward SARRC based on both a professional and personal connection to the organization’s mission.
Dr. Herro has spent his career as a dentist serving individuals with special needs and has seen firsthand the barriers many individuals with autism face when accessing healthcare, including sensory sensitivities, anxiety, communication differences and limited access to specialized providers.
SARRC’s comprehensive approach to supporting individuals with autism across the lifespan immediately resonated with his belief that healthcare should be compassionate, individualized and accessible for everyone.
“Rather than treating autism in isolation, SARRC’s work promotes inclusion, education, research, and community support that aligns with my belief that healthcare must be compassionate, equitable, and individualized,” says Dr. Herro.
He was especially inspired by SARRC’s unique ability to combine cutting-edge research with practical services that empower families and strengthen communities. He views the organization’s work as a natural extension of his own commitment to improving care for individuals with developmental disabilities and advocating for greater access to healthcare.
“What motivates me to stay involved in SARRC is seeing every day how a visionary and compassionate leadership team — guided by Daniel Openden — translates mission into meaningful impact,” Anthony says. “Knowing that my involvement supports not only cutting-edge services and research but also such a dynamic, thoughtful, and caring group of people is what motivates me to stay engaged with SARRC.”
