Jon Hulburd’s connection to SARRC began when his friend Denise Resnik, co-founder of the organization, invited him to the SARRC Annual Community Breakfast. What started as a single invitation grew into a longstanding commitment to supporting individuals with autism and their families.
Over the years, Jon has remained deeply engaged with the organization and is currently in his second year serving on its board of directors. His commitment also inspired him to become a SARRC MVP through a multi-year gift, one he hopes to continue expanding in the years ahead.
Jon says one of the things that continues to inspire his support is SARRC’s commitment to research.
“I am very impressed with the level and volume of scientific research that SARRC is able to deliver,” says Jon. “SARRC serves as an important clearinghouse of information and treatment.”
Jon’s commitment to serving his community has been a consistent part of his life. He spent 20 years on the Phoenix Children’s Hospital board of directors, including serving as chairman, and another decade on the Phoenix Art Museum board, where he also served as chair. His involvement with New Way Learning Academy spanned two decades, and he has been a member of the Phoenix Thunderbirds for 30 years.
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Jon attended college in Colorado, graduate school in Washington, D.C., and law school in New York City before moving to Phoenix, his wife Carrie’s hometown, in 1986. Today, he and Carrie are both retired lawyers and small business owners. Jon continues to maintain an ownership interest in the company he helped found in 2012, Jetlinx Scottsdale.
One message that has stayed with Jon and inspired his ongoing support came early in his SARRC journey, when SARRC President & CEO Daniel Openden shared that early detection of autism is not only possible, but crucial because early treatment can change lives. The message has remained with Jon as he has continued to learn more about SARRC’s work and the difference early intervention can make for individuals and families.
Through his long-standing involvement, leadership and generosity, Jon continues to support SARRC’s pursuit of meaningful answers through research and its commitment to ensuring individuals with autism and their families have access to the information, services and support they need.
