Research Study: Improving STEM Learning Opportunities for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder

About the Study

The Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) is looking for families living in St. Louis, Missouri, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, or Miami, Florida, to volunteer in our research study that is evaluating how inclusive and engaging museums are for children and adolescents with ASD.

Families will be asked to make two separate visits to the same museum, three to six months apart and evaluate their family’s experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Participants must be a parent or guardian of a child with ASD without an intellectual disability, between the ages of 11 and 18
  • Must reside in St. Louis,  Oklahoma City or Miami
  • Must be available for two museum visits and willing to complete pre- and post-visit surveys and interviews

Families participating in the study will complete the following:

  • Remote intake visit via videoconference, including a brief IQ test with the child
  • Two visits to a museum selected by SARRC*
  • Pre-visit surveys are conducted before each museum visit
  • Post-visit online surveys and videoconference interviews following each museum visit
* Families will receive a stipend to cover expenses related to the museum visits and up to $100 compensation ($50 after completing surveys and interviews about each visit)

SARRC’s research program brings together scientists and stakeholders to gain a better understanding of possible causes of autism, identify better treatments, and educate others about how to improve the quality of life for those impacted by ASD and their families.
