Join SARRC’s Research Department for “An Evening of Learning.” Attendees will hear from Dr. Christopher J. Smith, learn about current research opportunities at SARRC, and learn about a recently completed research project from Dr. Nicole Matthews.
Dr. Matthews will present on the Strengthening Skills Program, which was developed for autistic adults of any age who are seeking support for challenges with daily living skills, mental health, and/or social relationships. Designed with considerable input from the autistic community, the program employs a strengths-based, individualized approach that involves habit formation strategies, mindfulness techniques, and social strategies. Findings from the pilot study suggest that participants showed improvements in their quality of life and functional adaptive behavior. This project highlights the importance of integrating community feedback to develop relevant and effective support programs for autistic adults.
