JumpStart and JumpStart Online

A parent empowerment program

JumpStart provides state-of-the-art information, support, and training for parents of children up to age 6 who have recently been diagnosed with or are at risk for ASD. Parents receive information on the most critical topics for families of newly diagnosed children. They learn about characteristics of ASD, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and how to begin improving communication, reducing problem behaviors, accessing state services, and coordinating with service providers.

In addition to information learned a didactic format, families receive hands-on training by skilled clinicians in the implementation of evidence-based interventions.

JumpStart is offered in two formats including in-person sessions and a hybrid format which includes online and in-person sessions. See below for more information on both formats:

JumpStart

How It Begins
JumpStart orientation occurs one week prior to the start of the program and serves as the initial meeting for parents and children. Orientation consists of an informal child-assessment and parent-assessment, a tour of the facility, and a more detailed explanation of the program.

Program Details
One week after the completion of the orientation session, the JumpStart program begins. Each lesson starts with a topic-based discussion for parents while clinicians work with children in a classroom setting. Once the discussion ends, parents have the opportunity to watch their child’s individualized session through live video feed. An experienced clinician provides a step-by-step explanation on the implementation of ABA-based interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of each child. Finally, each parent receives four, 75-minute parent coaching sessions where clinicians provide feedback and coaching as parents implement the intervention procedures with their child.

JumpStart Online

How It Begins
JumpStart Online offers families the flexibility to access portions of the program remotely, where families are required to come to the campus only once a week. It all begins with a JumpStart Online orientation that occurs one week prior to the start of the program and serves as the initial meeting. Orientation consists of an informal child assessment and parent assessment as well as a more detailed explanation of the program and schedule.

Program Details
During the orientation session, in addition to completing assessments, families receive the log-in information that they will use to access online lessons during the program. Each week during the four weeks after the orientation session the family will complete two online lessons at their own time and an in-person coaching session. During each coaching session the family has an opportunity to ask questions about the material covered during the online lessons, observe a clinician working 1:1 with their child while explaining the strategies being implemented, and receive hands-on training practicing the strategies observed while being coached.
